Vivenomics Beta Course

Introduction

Welcome to the Vivenomics Beta Course! 

At first glance, this course may appear as yet another management consultation program, aiming to help you squeeze a little more productivity from your staff.  However, Vivenomics is less about practical steps (Although we do cover those!) and more about inviting you into a whole new way of thinking when it comes to leading and managing others.

This course is designed to introduce leaders, managers, CEOs and entrepreneurs to the Vivenomics way of doing business. The goal: To create a life for you that is marked by more freedom, more time and less stress. Paradoxically, we achieve these things by first creating a rewarding and fulfilling work experience for those that work for us.

This is the Beta course, which means the following videos and activities are bare bones in content as well as video/audio quality. The aim for this beta course is to present the content in its rawest form to willing and generous volunteers (that's YOU!)  with the goal of receiving feedback to ensure that the content is consistent, sound, easy to follow and devoid of any confusion. When the course is ready to launch in the Fall, branding, design, visuals and audio quality will be improved. However, before those elements can be addressed, it is imperative that the core content, lessons and philosophy of the course are as impactful as they can be. That is the mission of this Beta course.

This course is, for its majority, self-directed. This means, you can do each module at your own pace in your own time. However, each week will include a one hour group discussion done over Zoom.  For the sake of ease, our weekly discussion questions will be listed at the end of each activity, so you have time to reflect and prepare in advance.

Before we begin, review the course schedule below.  Specific dates are determined by your Cohort Group and will be emailed to you.

Week 1

  • Read the introduction

  • Watch Introduction Video

  • Watch Lesson 1 and 2 in Module 1

  • Complete all Module 1 Activities

  • Reflect on Module 1 discussion questions in advance of Zoom discussion (date will be emailed to you)

Week 2

  • Watch Lesson 1 through 4 in Module 2

  • Complete all Module 2 Activities

  • Reflect on Module 2 discussion questions in advance of Zoom discussion (date will be emailed to you)

Week 3

  • Watch all videos in Module 3 and 4

  • Complete all activities for both Module 3 and 4

  • Reflect on Module 3 and 4 discussion questions in advance of Zoom discussion (date will be emailed to you)

Week 4

  • Watch all videos in Module 5

  • Complete all activities for Module 5

  • Reflect on Module 5 discussion questions in advance of Zoom discussion (date will be emailed to you)

  • Prepare to give course feedback during final Zoom discussion

Module 1: Know The Coins

Lesson 1: What We Exchange at Work

In this lesson, we introduce the core concept of the 7 "currencies" or Life Coins ("VC's") that are at the heart of the Vivenomics philosophy of workplace management.

In this lesson, we take a deeper dive into the 7 VC's and how they are measured.

Discussion Questions

  1. At first glance, what VC's stand out to you as especially important? Why do they stand out to you?

  2. Using the VC model as a guide, can you describe a workplace experience that made you want to quit that could, in retrospect, be summed up as too many debits in one of the VC accounts?

  3. Using the VC model as a guide, how would you describe your current workplace experience? In what ways are you experiencing credits and debits in the 7 VC accounts?

Module 2 : Know Yourself

Lesson 1: Good Management Starts With Us

The goal for Module 2 is to know ourselves better, so we are able  to lead others well and create the kind of rewarding work experience for others that will reap dividends for us in the future.  We will become more aware of this idea by beginning with Lesson 1.

Lesson 2: The Vivenomics Profile System

In this lesson, we are introduced to the Vivenomics Profile system, which is designed to hep us articulate our own relationship with our work. This system will help us in future modules to better understand and attract the kinds of workers we want in our own organizations.

Lesson 3: Beware The Wildebeest

Each animal in the profile system brings its own traits, strengths ad weaknesses. However, there is one animal that should be avoided at all times. We explore the wildebeest in the following video.

Lesson 4: Money and Us

To prevent ourselves from becoming wildebeests, we have to realign our relationship with money. An unhealthy alignment will cause us as leaders to make all kinds of decisions that strain ourselves and hurt those that work for us. Click the video below to explore this challenging concept.

3. Watch the tutorial below and then download your "Must Have" and "Like to Have" budget worksheets. You will not be expected to share specific numbers at the next discussion, but it will be great to have your new insights ready to share.

Discussion Questions

  1. What combination of animals did you arrive at when discovering your profile? Did you find this to be accurate? What new insights did you uncover from this quiz?

  2. Have you ever identified with the wildebeest? If so, what were the main drivers in your life that caused you to be one and what changed in your life to cause you to "graduate" from the profile?

  3. Share about someone you've worked with before that was probably a wildebeest. Was there a core motivation issue at play, or do you think they were just poorly suited for the job?

  4. After completing the budgeting activity, what insights did you uncover? Did you find that articulating your "ideal life" helped to demystify the steps required to get there?

  5. After completing the budgeting activity, did you find that you value some VCs more than money? What VCs do you truly value and what would an accumulation of those VCs look like?

Module 3 : Know Who You Need

In this module, we begin to drill down into the practical application of the Vivenomics philosophy of management. Here, we explore the pivotal concept of the Lynchpin Relationship.

Module 4 : Know What They Need

Lesson 1: Crafting the VC Experience for your LR

Having spent some time articulating the LR for your organization, now it's time to step into their shoes and learn what you need in order to attract them.

Discussion Questions

  1. Where have you experienced friction or disconnect between various relationships in your organization? Would an LR prioritization model have helped ease that friction?

  2. Refer to the Module 3 Activity sheet. After applying a combination of the 4 methods, what did you discover? Which of the 4 methods was most effective for you if any?

  3. Discuss some of the inherent debits that are part of your work in general and your LR role in particular. Share with the group some of the solutions you came up with that counterbalanced that debit with a credit somewhere else.

  4. What are some inherent challenges that come up when you apply an LR strategy to your organization specifically?

Module 5 : Know How to Keep Them

Lesson 1: Matching Your LR Profile

Here is where we pair the key concepts of the LR with the animal profile system we explored in Module 2. Pairing these two concepts will help us to not only attract the right worker, but retain them for many years to come.

Lesson 2: Compensation Models For Each Animal

Here, we will learn more about the core motivations of the 6 desirable types, and how we can accommodate those motivations to help craft the ideal compensation structure.

Lesson 3: A Lifestyle of Continual Progress

Having mastered the art of matching the proper compensation model for your LR, you can use the same process to design the ideal structure for every other role in you organization.  This process is not a one-time event, but a lifestyle that will define your experience as a leader.

Module 5 Activities

  1. Take time on your own to review the animal descriptions and connect your LR to the ideal animal.

  2. Take some time to review the course and prepare some thoughtful feedback so we can craft the best course possible in the future. Let us know what concepts were clear/unclear or helpful/unhelpful. How can we make this course better?

  1. What animal or animals did you find to be the ideal fit for your LR? In what ways can you create a credit/debit balance that retains that ideal animal?

  2. In your organization, what are some creative ways you can give out bonuses to members of your team that aren't tied directly to overall company profitability? Remember to consider ALL SEVEN coins in your answer.

  3. After reviewing Lesson 3, do you have any struggle with adapting to a less hands-on role and delegating more to your team?
